Calamondin is used mainly as an ornamental tree, rather than for food, although the fruit is edible! Widely known as the sour orange. It is a late variety orange and does well when kept on the tree after ripening. In Mexico, however, sour oranges are cut in half, salted, coated with a paste of hot chili peppers, and eaten. This variety was produced by crossing kumquats and mandarin oranges.
